Caffe Lena History Project!
Since 2002 my friend, Jocelyn Arem, has tirelessly committed herself to documenting the history of the Caffè and commemorating the life and legacy of Lena Spencer. She asks that you read the note below and contact her if you have any materials about the Caffe......
The Caffè Lena History Project has:
- Preserved stories, photos and other memorabilia from the Caffe's history
- Secured a partnership with the Library of Congress to digitize the Caffe Lena archival collection.
In honor of Caffé Lena’s 50th Anniversary in 2010, we are seeking the following material for our archival collection:
Audio recordings of live Caffé performances and any personally recorded shows from the 1980s WSPN “Lena’s Open Door” radio program, as well as—
. . .photographs, posters, programs, songbooks, recipes, letters, etc. If you wish to donate items, please email Jocelyn Arem, Caffè Lena History Project Director at jocelyn@caffelenahistory.org. If we can use your materials, we will be happy to send you a tax donation form.
To share a story about Lena or the Caffé and to learn more about the project, please visit the website: www.caffelenahistory.org

The Troubadour Series
Best of the Decade!
Coming up with this community's Top 20 Albums of the Decade was a little more complicated than compiling the communal votes for the Best of 2009. Most of you agreed on artists whose albums had helped define the decade, but there was much less agreement about specific albums which stood out across the whole decade. So, we decided to knock it off at a Top 20 list, since all the albums included herein appeared on more than two people's lists (meaning there was at least some level of consensus from the community).
Those included here were voted by the ND community and weighted based on the most votes and the highest placement on voters' personal Top 10 lists (Folks' #1 pick received 10 points, #2 got 9 points, etc). Gillian Welch's Time (the Revelator) topped the most lists and can thus be considered the ND community's favorite album of the past ten years. The full list follows.
1. Gillian Welch- Time (the Revelator)
2. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
3. Drive By Truckers - The Dirty South
4. Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker
5. Bruce Springsteen - The Rising
6. Mary Gauthier - Mercy Now
7. Alejandro Escovedo - A Man Under The Influence
8. O Brother, Where Art Thou? (Soundtrack)
9. Radiohead - Hail To The Thief
10. Broken Family Band - Welcome Home Loser
11. Patty Griffin - 1000 Kisses
12. Bob Dylan - Love & Theft
13. Buddy and Julie Miller - Written in Chalk
14. Buddy Miller - Universal United House of Prayer
15. Laura Veirs - Triumphs and Travails Of Orphan Mae
16. Ray Wylie Hubbard - Growl
17. Slaid Cleaves - Everything You Love Will Be Taken Away
18. Thad Cockrell & Caitlin Cary - Begonias
